Resistance
Transformed through the alchemy of pigment and knots, unassuming twisted caterpillars of fabric unfurl into colorful butterflies, emerging into the light with exhilarating and unexpected hues. The art of tie dye is the inspiration for the new Emily P. Wheeler Resistance Collection.
Resistance is what gives tie dye its patterns of dark and light. Tie dye also has long been a symbol of resistance, from the hippies of Haight Ashbury in the sixties to hipsters in the nineties and today to the DIY movement for sustainable craft rather than fast fashion. Tie dye today is high fashion too, appearing on the runways of Dior, Halston, Versace, Gabriella Hearst, Proenza Schouler, Paco Rabanne, and Elder Statesman. The Resistance Collection's unexpected twist to fine jewelry celebrates the rebel, iconoclast and trendsetter in all of us.

The History of Tie Dye
In the Resistance Collection, Emily is inspired by centuries of tie dye traditions from around the world as well as her own collection of vintage tie-dye t-shirts. From Shibori in Japan, to Bandhani in India, Amarra in Peru, and Batik in Indonesia, wearing tie dye is a mark of individuality. The collection's kaleidoscopic hues are drawn from innovators like Courtenay Pollack in the 1960s, from spiraling psychedelic emeralds, apatite, sapphires and diamonds and rippling gemstone galaxies to bold patterned gold. Emily has also hand-dyed raw silk cords herself to add one-of-a-kind accents.
“I feel most myself when I am wearing tie dye so exploring spectrums of color through the study of traditional tie dye techniques was a thrilling journey for me.”

Color Forever
With a saturated palette and unique fractal shapes, the joyful designs in the new collection also celebrate the intricacies of the jeweler's art and the stunning spectrum of natural gemstones. Like a prismatic winged creature emerging from the cocoon of quiet luxury, the Resistance Collection will remind you to always show your true colors.
